Providing myriad options, this automatic bread maker embodies the marvels of 21st century electronic convenience and choice. Yes, it mixes, kneads, rises, and bakes bread in three loaf sizes up to 2-1/2 pounds. But its digital controls go much further, offering settings for white, whole wheat, multigrain, and French (crisp crust, open texture) breads, each made according to what’s best for that particular style. Other settings permit rapid baking and baking sandwich bread with a soft crust. For raisin (or other dried-fruit) bread, a beeper signals when to add the fruit so it’s not crushed during kneading. Crust color–dark or light–can be selected as well. The machine automatically adds yeast at the proper time from a dispenser on the unit’s lid. … More >>

My orginal machine was a Mr. BreadMaster. It was the first one I bought. Compared to the Panasonic Bread Maker, the bread was okay. The new machine was worth the price. It makes great bread with great ease

This machine is everything I ever dreamed a bread machine could be. And Ringo (my Black Lab.) hasn’t had any complaints. As soon as SYD (that’s what I call the machine) starts rising – Ringo goes mad. I’ve never seen my pup eat 2 1/2 pounds of multigrain before. But as long as it’s fresh, I guess it’s healthy! LOL.

The delight it brings Ringo and I has been immeasurable. We make whole evenings of buying supplies, watching SYD Knead, rise, and finally bake. I even sneak slices from the loaf, this way Ringo doesn’t growl. And I am in heaven. Imagine if heavens clouds were as soft as the loaves Ringo and I bake.

The only problem I have with my SYD, is that Ringo can’t bake it himself. :( But the automatic Yeast dispenser is a step in the right direction.

3 Stars for SYD, the best bread maker I have ever owned.

I decided that what I’d really like for Christmas is a new bread machine that works better than my very old Oster. I was all ready to buy either Zojirushi or Panasonic because the descriptions and comments (about the older machines) describe well-designed, solid machines that do a good job.

*However, I noticed that the newer reviews are either a little short-sighted (“I’ve had this machine for a whole month, made 4 loaves of bread, and it still works great..”) or they show what happens when beancounters move the manufacturing to China, which is notorious for poor workmanship, cheap, flimsy materials, and machines which quickly break down with ordinary use. It’s not worth $200 to me to gamble on whether I’m going to get a decent bread machine or an expensive paperweight.

I’m tired of pampering that old turkey of an Oster. But at least it works, pretty well, 99% of the time. The manual is still a joke, typed and printed by people who don’t read English, but I guess I can download some real recipes from the net.

Thanks to all of you, folks. Your collective wisdom saved me from wasting a lot of money at Christmastime. Hope you all have a good Christmas.

This is a great breadmaker, which I bought as a Christmas gift for my sister; however read the fine print if they offer you a rebate. You only get one month to send in the receipt, yet I didn’t receive the item until at least a week later and of course I didn’t cut up the box to get the UPC until after Christmas. They rejected my rebate of $20 and I am very frustrated.
